Job Description: Security Consulting Engineer Intern

Who You’ll Work With:

The intern will join Cisco’s Security Customer Experience (CX) organization. This team supports customers throughout the lifecycle of security solutions, from needs assessment and custom solution deployment to optimization, application development, maintenance, and incident investigation. Interns will interact with customers and various Cisco teams.

What You’ll Do:

The internship involves hands-on experience in security consulting. Specific responsibilities include:

On-site work: Attending design and configuration sessions with a mentor.
Requirements gathering: Collecting customer requirements to meet business goals.
Project definition: Working with a mentor to define business goals and integration requirements.
Large-scale design: Supporting large-scale design efforts for customer network integrations.
Lab configuration: Configuring lab devices using templates for customer production implementations.
Policy analysis and design: Analyzing and designing policies for Identity Services, Firewalls, Visibility Solutions, and cloud-based solutions.
Configuration improvement: Analyzing customer configurations and suggesting improvements aligned with business goals.
Data analysis: Evaluating customer logs or NetFlow data to advise on improvements.
Security standards: Learning and understanding security policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines.
Automation development: Leveraging programming languages (Java/Python/C++) and open-source automation platforms (Ansible/Chef/Terraform) to create custom automation capabilities using Cisco APIs.

Qualifications:

Upcoming graduate: From a technical degree or certification program (Technical Boot Camp, Apprenticeship, Community College, or 4-Year University).
IT Knowledge: Understanding of IT systems, networking concepts, TCP/IP protocols, network devices and applications, the OSI 7-layer model, or code development.
Legal authorization: Ability to legally work in the country of application without visa sponsorship.
Soft skills: Desire and passion for Information Security, willingness to learn, ability to work in small teams, balance multiple responsibilities, work collaboratively across teams, handle ambiguity, self-motivation, excellent written and verbal skills.
