Job Description: Environmental Engineering Intern – Summer 2025 (Houston, TX)

This is a full-time, temporary internship as part of WSP’s 12-week summer internship program, scheduled to begin May 19th, 2025 (with flexible start date possibilities). The internship is based in the Houston, TX office and is open to undergraduate or graduate students.

Responsibilities:

• Support various Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, and Biology tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn fundamental principles of Environmental Engineering and Environmental Science.
• Assist with project research, fieldwork, and technical report writing across various business sectors.
• Evaluate client operations for environmental and regulatory compliance (federal, state, and local levels).
• Assist in delivering environmental permits (application preparation and compliance guidance).
• Participate in creating environmental compliance plans and reports (e.g., SPCC Plans, SWPPPs, Waste Management Plans).
• Learn about regulatory frameworks (U.S. EPA, state agencies like Texas and Louisiana, city/county agencies, Department of Energy, etc.).
• Assist in maintaining project documentation (notes, field notes, meeting minutes, quality control, SOPs).
• Complete assigned training.
• Perform additional duties as needed.
• Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.

Required Qualifications:

• Active enrollment in an accredited Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology, or related undergraduate program (anticipated graduation August 2025 or later).
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Demonstrated interest in environmental fields and a desire to enhance skills related to WSP’s work.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both technical and non-technical audiences).
• Ability to follow direction from leadership and mentors.
• Basic proficiency in technical writing, office software (Microsoft Office Suite), and technology tools.
• Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s safety policies.
• Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Enrollment in a Master’s or PhD program in a related field (anticipated graduation August 2025 or later).
• HAZWOPER-40 certification.
• Prior internship or campus leadership experience.
• Active involvement in professional organizations.
