Job Description: Audit Intern
KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join its Audit Services team. This role involves working collaboratively within a team on financial statement audits for clients primarily in the federal government sector. The intern will contribute to ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information while upholding principles of objectivity and independence.
Responsibilities:
• Financial Statement Audits: Play an integral part in conducting financial statement audits, contributing to the overall effectiveness of clients’ operations. Maintain the highest professional integrity standards.
• Risk Assessment: Develop an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, external information, current business trends, and client transactions, focusing on federal government clients.
• Audit Documentation: Prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation outlining the understanding of clients’ processes and technology systems.
• Testing and Validation: Execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using appropriate standards and terminology.
• Data and Analytics (D&A): Support the use of D&A in the audit process, including data extraction and analysis. Utilize various technologies and tools like AI, Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI to perform substantive audit procedures. Assist in preparing related documentation.
• Client and Team Interaction: Support the execution of high-quality audits through effective interactions with clients and engagement teams.
Qualifications:
• Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent. Must be pursuing CPA licensure requirements in the state where the office is located (or demonstrate eligibility through reciprocity).
• GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Coursework: Coursework or a minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred. Experience with data analysis tools such as Alteryx or Power BI is a plus.
• Security Clearance: Applicant must be eligible for or possess a U.S. Government Security clearance.
• Technical Skills: Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards; knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); proficiency in various computer applications, especially MS Office (particularly Excel); aptitude for learning KPMG Audit tools and client applications.
• Soft Skills: Demonstrated commitment to quality service; strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills; professional judgment and skepticism; flexibility and adaptability as a team player; leadership experience (a plus); resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work; project management skills (a plus).
• Location: Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office and be able to travel to client sites as needed. Work will involve a minimum of three days per week in person at a KPMG office or client site.
• Citizenship: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based sponsorship.
