Job Description: Engineering Intern

AeroVironment seeks engineering interns to work within specific engineering areas aligned with their field of study and experience. The company emphasizes a hands-on approach and a desire to tackle real-world challenges. Interns will have real responsibilities impacting actual products and development.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in multiple phases of the Engineering/Manufacturing Design & Development process.
• Support engineering and design activities using tools such as Windtunnels, 3-D Printers, Solidworks, Altium, Ansys, Visual Studio, and Matlab.
• Other duties as assigned. Examples include working on teams designing new unmanned aircraft for planetary surveillance, testing and verifying design modifications to flight hardware/software systems, and resolving flight behavior issues on miniature unmanned aerial vehicles.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled Junior, Senior, or Graduate student pursuing a degree in Aero/Mechanical/Electrical or Computer Science/Engineering.
• Relevant coursework completed.
• UAV or Robotics experience.
• Hands-on experience with relevant tools.
• Experience with software tools in their area of expertise.
Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies:
• Flight test or R/C experience (a plus).
• General engineering fundamentals, mathematics, physics, and material properties knowledge.
• Familiarity with structured development techniques.
• Ability to thrive in innovative and challenging environments.
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with shared responsibilities within small teams.
• Effective problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Teamwork and collaboration skills; prioritizing team success.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment (Constant).
• Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Constant).

ITAR Requirement: This position requires access to information subject to ITAR and/or EAR compliance. Applicants must qualify as a U.S. person or obtain an export license. Some positions require U.S. Citizenship.
