Job Description: Graduation Assignment – Model-Informed Ink Development

This assignment focuses on advancing UV-curable ink development at Canon. Canon utilizes UVgel technology (in its Colorado printer family) and aims to transition from a pragmatic ink screening approach to a model-based one. In collaboration with the University of Amsterdam, Canon is developing kinetic models to represent the chemical processes in UV-curable ink polymerization. Current models are based on simplified recipes and deviate significantly from real-world inks.

The student’s role will be to bridge the gap between these simplified models and real-world ink development. The objective is not to perfect the models before application but to use them to inform experiments, iteratively improving both the model and the ink development process. The student will help find suitable ink recipes incorporating a new ingredient using this model-informed experimental approach.

The assignment requires:

• Developing a model-informed workflow for ink recipe development.
• Conducting experiments and analyzing results to refine the kinetic models.
• Integrating a new ingredient into the ink formulation.
• Contributing to a more efficient and data-driven ink development process.

This is a 5-9 month internship/graduation assignment requiring a minimum of 4 days per week. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced Canon professionals.
