About The Role
Sierra Space is looking for a Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineering Intern to join their specialized GNC team. This intern will work on the design, analysis, and testing of GNC systems for aerospace applications.
Key Responsibilities:
• Advance simulation or analysis capabilities of toolsets
• Assist in the development and analysis of GNC algorithms and systems for aerospace vehicles
• Conduct simulations and performance evaluations of guidance, navigation, and control systems
• Compile and analyze test data, prepare technical reports, and present findings to the engineering team
• Support the development and maintenance of documentation, including specifications, schematics, and test procedures
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integration of GNC systems with other aerospace systems
• Participate in design reviews, providing input on GNC system design and performance

Minimum Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
• Must have at least one academic term remaining after the completion of the internship
• Students must be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior undergraduate student or enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. Program
• Strong skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio or Lucid
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment
• Strong organization skills and work ethic; detail oriented
Preferred Qualifications:
• Pursuing a degree in Aerospace or Mechanical engineering or a related discipline
• Basic understanding of GNC principles and technologies, including control algorithms, sensor fusion, and navigation methods.
• Completed course work in orbital dynamics, orbital mechanics, and/or space dynamics
• Understanding of Kalman filtering or other types of filtering
• Proficiency in engineering software tools, including MATLAB or Python or STK, for system modeling and analysis
• Experience with C++
• Understanding of classical control theory, linear controls and optimal control theory
Compensation:
• Engineering Intern Sophomore: $28.00/hour
• Engineering Intern Junior/Senior: $30.00/hour
• Engineering Intern BA/MS Dual Program or 5 yr BA/MS Program: $31.00
• Engineering Intern Master’s: $35.00/hour
• Engineering Intern PhD: $42.00/hour
