Principal Software Development Engineer – QA + Networking | Zscaler

The Tone:
This is a hybrid role at Zscaler, located in Bangalore, India. Zscaler built the world’s largest cloud security platform, the Zero Trust Exchange, which protects thousands of customers from cyberattacks and data loss by securely connecting users, devices, and applications. This role is crucial for enhancing the platform’s multitenant architecture and global footprint by ensuring the reliability and quality of cloud-based security solutions. • Team: Reports to the Director Software Engineering in the Engineering department.
• Mission: Design innovative test strategies, develop robust automation frameworks, and resolve complex customer issues to enhance a global cloud security platform.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Collaborate and maintain cloud solutions: Partner with cross-functional teams during the design phase and ensure the ongoing maintenance of cloud-based software solutions.
• Design and develop test strategies: Create innovative test strategies to simulate complex customer usage scenarios and enable large-scale testing using Python.
• Develop and maintain automation frameworks: Build and sustain robust, scalable test automation frameworks, integrating automated APIs into CI/CD systems like Jenkins and GitLab.
• Diagnose and resolve customer issues: Own the diagnosis and resolution of customer problems, including recreating production issues and providing necessary workarounds.
• Enhance product debugging: Offer critical insights to the development team to improve product debugging and serviceability features.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Foundational understanding of AI/ML technologies and experience leveraging or securing AI-driven solutions; extensive knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS/TLS, L4-L7 protocols, certificates; proficiency in debugging network flows using tools like tcpdump and Wireshark; CCNP or equivalent networking knowledge.
• Experience: Building Python-based frameworks (preferably PyTest) for API, protocol, and system tests to drive reliability and coverage across microservices; testing on cloud-based architectures and working with Cloud and Kubernetes ecosystems (AWS, Docker, VM, Proxmox); integrating automation into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins/GitLab) with shift-left gating, test data provisioning, and parallel execution.
• Skills: Python programming, TCP/IP and networking protocols, Test Automation Framework development, Cloud and Kubernetes ecosystem management, CI/CD pipeline integration.
• Bonus: Experience leveraging generative AI developer tools and copilots for code generation, test design, and automated debugging; practical experience with Security and Cloud-Security products/architectures; knowledge and hands-on experience with Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) architectures.
