Intern, Accounting – Accounts Payable | Petco

The Tone:
This is a paid, 12-week full-time internship at Petco, a company dedicated to improving the lives of pets and their parents. Petco operates over 1,500 stores, 250+ Vetco hospitals, and numerous clinics, striving to nurture the pet-human bond through products, services, and community support. This role provides hands-on experience within the Accounts Payable team, contributing to the financial health and operational efficiency of a large, mission-driven organization that works to help pets live their best lives.

• Mission: To provide hands-on professional experience in Accounts Payable accounting tasks, supporting the existing team in financial operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Prepare: Assist with the preparation of journal entries.
• Prepare: Aid in the preparation of account reconciliations.
• Review: Contribute to the review process for vendor creations.
• Review: Perform reviews of three-way matches for transactions.
• Complete: Execute other assigned projects related to accounting functions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree program with a focus in Accounting, or have recently obtained a Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in Accounting. Anticipated graduation date between September 2026 and December 2026.
• Experience: This is a 12-week opportunity requiring the intern to work 40 hours/week, Monday – Friday, gaining hands-on professional experience in accounting tasks.
• Skills: Demonstrated abilities in planning and execution, drive for results, process improvement, clear communication, and building collaborative relationships.
• Bonus: A GPA of 3.2 or higher is preferred.
