Job Description
AVP, Rating Platform Software Engineer (Python) | Chubb
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Chubb, located in one of the listed offices, with remote arrangements considered. Chubb is advancing its Python-based rating infrastructure to enhance the deployment, testing, and evolution of pricing logic with speed and accuracy. This role is critical in leading the technical build-out of this infrastructure, establishing engineering patterns, testing rigor, and scalable architecture that will define how rating capabilities are developed and shipped for the next decade.
The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Full-time
• Location: Remote
• Pay: $131000–$189000 yearly
• Team: Leads a dotted-line agile squad of onshore and offshore developers; squad members formally report to other managers.
• Mission: Lead the technical build-out of a Python-based rating infrastructure to deploy, test, and evolve pricing logic with pace and precision.
• Tech Stack: Python, SQL, Claude Code, Cursor, Databricks, Snowflake, Duck Creek, Guidewire
What You’ll Actually Do
• Rating Engine Development: Design, build, and maintain internal Python-based pricing services and data models, setting architectural direction for the Python rating ecosystem across commercial lines.
• Quality & Testing Leadership: Develop best-in-class, scalable testing infrastructure and automated validation frameworks to ensure confidence in rating accuracy and compliance.
• Data & Modeling Enablement: Integrate and validate third-party data sources, enable dislocation analysis, and operationalize predictive models within the rating infrastructure.
• Technical Leadership: Operate as a hands-on technical leader, dedicating roughly 30-40 percent to coding and 60-70 percent to system design, architecture review, and PR review, while establishing engineering standards.
• Squad & Delivery Management: Lead a dotted-line agile squad of onshore and offshore developers, setting sprint priorities, unblocking dependencies, driving delivery cadence, and providing active mentorship.
The Must-Haves
• Background: 6+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, actuarial systems development, or insurance technology, with demonstrated technical leadership.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience building or significantly contributing to a rating engine, pricing system, or comparable rules- and calculation-driven service, along with a track record of establishing testing frameworks and quality practices in a production environment.
• Skills: Hands-on mastery of Python and SQL, fluency operating in AI-native workflows (Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent), strong system design instincts (API design, service architecture, extensibility), and strong communication skills to translate actuarial logic and product requirements into engineering.
• Bonus: P&C insurance background with commercial lines exposure, familiarity with filed rating plans or rating bureau frameworks (ISO, NCCI), actuarial pricing concepts, experience with cloud data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake), policy administration platforms (Duck Creek, Guidewire), predictive modeling workflows, or building engineering functions from an existing codebase in regulated environments.
