The Tone:
This is an Accountant I, early career position with A. O. Smith Corporation, offered in a hybrid setting across Appleton, WI and Haltom, TX. A. O. Smith is a global leader in applying innovative technologies to products, manufacturing and marketing residential and commercial water heating equipment, boilers, and water treatment products worldwide. With approximately 12,000 employees globally, this role is crucial for supporting the company’s financial operations by ensuring accurate accounting records, reports, and statements. The incumbent will play a key part in general ledger, budget, month-end closing, and various cost and financial analyses.

• Mission: Perform accounting activities to ensure accurate financial records, reports, and statements compliant with company and GAAP policies.
• Tech Stack: Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis), ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, Infor, Epicor, NetSuite)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Expense Management: Assemble plant expense analysis and report updates to staff on a regular basis.
• Reconciliation & Reporting: Prepare bank reconciliations for all operating, disbursement, payroll, and investment accounts.
• Journal Entries & Tax: Prepare specific monthly journal entries and sales tax returns.
• Financial Analysis: Analyze and reconcile general accounting discrepancies, reporting on utility use and expenditures for senior management review.
• Audit & Compliance: Provide internal financial audits and cycle count audits, issuing reports and observing all procedures in accordance with GAAP and company policy.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field. Entry-level.
• Experience: Internship, co-op, or 1-2 years of accounting experience preferred. Experience with ERP systems is preferred, along with manufacturing or inventory accounting exposure.
• Skills: Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis.
• Bonus: SAP knowledge is a plus.
