Lead Java Developer | Swift

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Swift, located in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) and Belgium (La Hulpe). Swift is the world’s leading provider of secure financial messaging services, connecting 12,000+ banks and financial institutions globally. This role is crucial for establishing the foundational Data Management Platform, supporting the creation of new Data Products, and ensuring the long-term scalability and reliability of critical data infrastructure to support the global economy.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Own: Own the end-to-end technical vision for one or more core components of the Data Management Platform, ensuring long-term scalability, resilience, and alignment with enterprise standards.
• Drive: Drive design decisions and actively contribute to design reviews across teams, contributing to the platform’s architectural direction.
• Accountable: Be accountable for the technical delivery of complex, cross-team initiatives, including planning, risk management, and execution to ensure project success.
• Coach: Act as a technical lead and coach for multiple engineers, helping them grow in autonomy, design skills, and platform understanding.
• Evolve: Anticipate future platform needs regarding capacity, performance, security, and governance, proactively evolving the platform to meet these demands.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Lead Java Developer with proven expertise in data engineering and software development practices, along with a solid understanding of Data Management Platforms.
• Experience: 10+ years’ experience in systems development, including 2 years exposure to a team leader role, and hands-on experience on a Data Management Platform.
• Skills: Advanced hands-on expertise with Java 11 and Java 17; strong scripting skills (Unix Shell or Python); solid understanding of containerization technologies (OpenShift or Kubernetes) with Helm; experience with large-scale object storage (Amazon S3); proven experience with data management tools such as Spark or Kafka; hands-on experience in CI/CD environments (Git, Jenkins, Maven) and PKI/SSL for secure communications; practical experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and collaboration tools.
• Bonus: Experience with Apache Airflow for job orchestration, Elasticsearch/Kibana, and Infrastructure as Code tools like Argo CD or Terraform.
