Tax & Accounting Intern | GreenStone Farm Credit Services
The Tone:
This is a paid internship at GreenStone Farm Credit Services, located in East Lansing, MI, running approximately from December 2026 through April 2027. GreenStone is a substantial over $16 billion financial services institution with a workforce of over 600 employees operating across 35 locations throughout Michigan and northeast Wisconsin. The organization is dedicated to providing essential financial products and services, including short and long-term credit, crop insurance, life and disability insurance, accounting services, tax planning and preparation, and appraisals, to its diverse customer base. This Tax & Accounting Intern role is an integral part of our team during the critical tax season, directly contributing to the timely and accurate processing of vital financial information and tax forms. By providing support to our accounting staff and Senior Tax Accountant, this position ensures that GreenStone continues to deliver exceptional service and support our customers’ financial health and compliance needs.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Year-End Accounting: Assist staff in the comprehensive processing of year-end accounting information, ensuring accuracy and completeness for subsequent tax and financial reporting.
• Payroll Tax Reporting: Prepare various payroll tax reports and coordinate workloads to meet critical deadlines and regulatory requirements.
• Tax Form Preparation: Accurately prepare a range of essential tax forms, including business and individual W-2s, 1099s, and other miscellaneous tax documents required for compliance.
• Income Tax Data Support: Provide dedicated support to the Senior Tax Accountant through meticulous data entry for income tax returns, contributing to the efficient workflow of tax season.
• Individual Tax Assistance: Offer basic individual tax support and preparation services, with the scope of involvement tailored to the intern’s demonstrated experience and education level.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an entry-level internship opportunity requiring candidates to be actively pursuing a degree in accounting, having achieved Sophomore status or above. This foundational academic pursuit is essential for understanding core accounting principles.
• Experience: While no specific years of prior professional experience are explicitly required, candidates should demonstrate a foundational academic understanding of accounting principles relevant to the role’s responsibilities.
• Skills: Strong organizational skills are crucial for managing various tax documents and deadlines. Proficiency in data entry is necessary for accurately inputting financial information. An ability to prepare various tax forms, such as W-2s and 1099s, is important. A solid understanding of basic accounting principles is also expected.
• Bonus: A keen interest in Tax preparation is highly valued, indicating a desire to learn and contribute within this specialized area. Furthermore, an interest in or previous experience working within the agricultural sector would be beneficial, aligning with GreenStone’s core customer base.
