Finance Intern | Partners In Health

The Tone:
This is an internship at Partners In Health, through its initiative, the University of Global Health Equity, located in Rwanda. Partners In Health is an internationally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare to marginalized communities globally, with a profound impact in Rwanda. This role is crucial for supporting the Finance Department’s daily accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial records, efficient transaction processing, and compliance with organizational policies. It offers valuable practical experience in essential accounting operations, financial reporting, reconciliation, and overall financial management.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship / Volunteer
• Location: In-person Rwanda
• Team: Finance Department, reports to Senior Accountant
• Mission: Support the Finance Department in day-to-day accounting, maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with financial policies.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office applications

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounts Payable: Assist in reviewing payment requests, verifying supporting documentation, and processing supplier payments and staff reimbursements.
• Fixed Assets Management: Support the maintenance and updating of the Fixed Asset Register, record asset transactions, and assist with physical asset tagging and inventory verification.
• Financial Reporting Support: Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing activities and aid in preparing financial reports and account reconciliations.
• Audit Documentation: Prepare and organize financial records and supporting documents as requested by internal and external auditors, maintaining proper filing and confidentiality.
• General Finance Support: Perform additional assigned accounting activities and participate in departmental meetings and relevant training sessions to support the Finance team.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration with an accounting concentration, or a related field, either recently completed or in its final year.
• Experience: Basic knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger accounting.
• Skills: Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications, strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and good organizational and time-management skills.
• Bonus: CPA or ACCA qualified, or currently at an advanced level of the CPA or ACCA professional qualification.
