The Tone:
This is a full-time, on-site role at Kariba Ventures, based in Irvine, CA. Kariba Ventures operates within the real estate sector, managing various properties and entities. This position is integral to the company’s financial operations, overseeing the daily real estate accounting activities. The Accountant is responsible for ensuring precise financial data, from recording transactions to producing comprehensive financial reports. This role directly contributes to the clarity of financial information, enabling effective decision-making by property management, asset management, and leadership teams.

• Mission: This person owns the accurate management of day-to-day real estate accounting activities, ensuring reliable financial reporting for properties and entities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for properties and entities.
• Transaction Management: Record and reconcile daily real estate accounting transactions and maintain general ledgers.
• Lease Analysis: Review leases and operating agreements to ensure accurate accounting treatment.
• Operational Support: Handle accounts payable and receivable related to real estate operations, and assist with CAM reconciliations, rent rolls, and property-level budgets.
• Compliance & Improvement: Support audits and tax preparation by providing schedules and documentation, and help improve accounting processes and controls.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field is required. Candidates must possess strong real estate accounting knowledge, encompassing property-level accounting, lease accounting principles, the intricacies of CAM reconciliations, and a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience: Demonstrated proficiency with standard accounting software and Microsoft Excel is essential for this role.
• Skills: Key skills include the ability to meticulously analyze financial data, prepare accurate and timely financial reports, and perform thorough reconciliations with a keen attention to detail. Effective communication and collaboration are necessary to work seamlessly with various internal cross-functional teams and external partners. Strong organizational and time management skills are vital for managing multiple properties, adhering to deadlines, and balancing competing priorities. Finally, a commitment to ethical standards, maintaining confidentiality, and driving continuous improvement in accounting processes and controls is expected.
• Bonus: A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or active progress toward certification is a beneficial qualification. Prior experience specifically within real estate, property management, or investment accounting environments is preferred.
