Development Accountant | Rockefeller Group

The Tone:
This role supports Rockefeller Group, a diversified real estate developer, owner, and operator across the United States, building office, residential, mixed-use, and industrial projects. Corporate accounting teams play a critical part in supporting development activities by providing financial oversight, accurate reporting, and disciplined budget management throughout the project lifecycle. This Development Accountant position ensures timely and accurate financial statements through extensive general ledger account analyses and other essential accounting procedures for the company’s development entities. Team members work closely with development teams, joint venture partners, and leadership to support successful project execution.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting: Prepare and input monthly journal entries into the Yardi general ledger system and assist in the timely preparation and distribution of monthly financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements) and financial reports for internal use and external partners.
• Cost & Budget Management: Assist in the proper coding, analysis, and reconciliation of invoices to ensure expenditures are accurately reflected in general ledger accounts, track costs against Investment Committee approved budgets, and reconcile costs on the Development Project Cost System to the general ledger.
• Treasury & Funding: Process funding and draw requests for projects with construction loans, working with the project accountant to ensure complete and timely loan draws are prepared and vendors are paid, and review joint venture funding and draw requests for accuracy.
• Audit & Compliance Support: Assist internal and external auditors with annual and interim audits, including preparing supporting schedules, and aid with any audits of construction costs.
• Transaction & Intercompany Accounting: Support transaction closing processes, review settlement statements for purchases and sales, prepare opening entries or gain on sale calculations, and reconcile intercompany balances and transactions, including monthly bank reconciliations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree required, with a preferred field of study in Accounting, for an entry-level accounting professional.
• Experience: 0-2 years of experience in the accounting field, with a preference for public accounting experience; demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word is required.
• Skills: Ability to prepare and input journal entries, perform general ledger account analyses and reconciliations, track and reconcile costs, accurately apply financial data, and effectively present financial information in both written and verbal formats.
• Bonus: Familiarity with US GAAP, knowledge of Yardi accounting software, and meeting the educational requirements to sit for the CPA exam are preferred qualifications.
