Staff Accountant | Pacific Executive Search

The Tone:
This is a hybrid role supporting a Southern California real estate investment and development firm with a diverse portfolio, located in Los Angeles. The company seeks a Staff Accountant to be a key player in its accounting operations. This position is crucial for ensuring accurate financial reporting, coordinating audits, and managing month-end close processes, providing an early-career accountant with significant exposure to investment vehicles and collaborative work with external partners to deepen their expertise in GAAP-based accounting and financial analysis.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounts Processing: Process and verify accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring adherence to internal controls and accurate documentation before approval.
• Record Maintenance: Maintain precise records of invoices, payments, and journal entries within the accounting system to uphold data integrity and compliance with accounting standards.
• Financial Reconciliations: Perform bank reconciliations and monitor account statuses to resolve discrepancies and support effective cash flow management.
• Closing Activities: Assist with monthly and year-end closing activities, including preparation of consolidated financial statements and analysis of investment partner reports.
• Audit & Tax Coordination: Serve as a point of contact for auditors and external tax professionals, facilitating audit procedures and tax filing coordination.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited four-year institution; basic knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Experience: At least one year of professional experience in an office environment, preferably in accounting or finance.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including data analysis tools such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and complex formulas; strong communication skills with business-level fluency in English; ability to collaborate effectively, follow established procedures, and work both independently and within a team.
• Bonus: Experience with accounting software platforms; familiarity with audit processes and tax compliance coordination; interest in pursuing CPA certification or advancing a career in accounting or finance.
