Staff Accountant | COLASKA INC

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at QAP, located in Anchorage, AK. QAP, a company within Colaska Inc., constructs roads, airports, and major infrastructure projects throughout Alaska, including completing projects in remote areas with specialized logistics. This Staff Accountant position is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional seeking to build a strong foundation in general accounting while developing technical expertise in financial reporting, tax compliance, and account reconciliations. The role is crucial for establishing business partnership skills and contributing to the organization’s financial accuracy and success.

• Mission: This person will develop technical expertise in financial reporting, tax compliance, cash-related accounting activities, account reconciliations, and recurring journal entries.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Compiling: Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts, accurately documenting business transactions.
• Investigating: Review, investigate, and resolve errors and inconsistencies in accounting records, financial entries, and reconciliations.
• Reporting: Prepare and coordinate reports required by regulatory agencies, including sales and use tax filings and highway use tax reporting.
• Analyzing: Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial reports to ensure accuracy and provide insights.
• Partnering: Develop business partnership skills through regular interaction with operational and management teams in an office-based environment.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; candidates currently pursuing their degree may also be considered.
• Experience: Up to three years of accounting, finance, or bookkeeping experience.
• Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Bonus: Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, strong sense of personal accountability, commitment to ethical conduct, professionalism, teamwork, and dependability.
