Accountant, Staff-Ex | Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots
The Tone:
This is a full-time Staff Accountant role at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, located in New Orleans, LA. Fair Grounds, America’s second oldest horse racing track and a New Orleans institution since 1852, operates as a premiere entertainment venue. It offers thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker, and simulcasting year-round, alongside a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana. This position is vital for assisting in the preparation of financial reports that track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit & loss, and tax liabilities, supporting overall financial management and decision-making.

• Mission: Assist in the preparation of financial reports to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit & loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.
What You’ll Actually Do
• General Ledger and Reporting: Prepare journal series for input to the General Ledger and accounting sub-systems, and assist with preparing financial statements and management reports.
• Financial Compliance: Support compliance and reporting cycles by assisting with daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in accordance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
• Data Integrity and Analysis: Ensure accurate financial reporting by analyzing and evaluating accounting and operational data, reconciling accounts, and making necessary adjustments in a timely manner, proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies.
• Internal Controls and Systems: Assist with strengthening internal controls through the development and monitoring of accounting procedures and systems, and utilize technology to develop and maintain financial reporting systems.
• Audit and Tax Compliance: Provide assistance to internal and external auditors by gathering requested documents and manage tax compliance tasks, including preparing and filing required forms with federal, state, and local agencies, collaborating effectively with regulators.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• Experience: At least one year of experience in Accounting or Finance.
• Skills: Strong foundational knowledge of GAAP for compliance and reporting; proficiency in financial reporting, including statement preparation and management reports; capability in account reconciliation and data analysis to ensure reporting accuracy; experience with general ledger operations for inputting journal series; and understanding of internal controls for strengthening accounting procedures.
