Tax Staff Accountant – Estate, Gift and Trust | UHY-US

The Tone:
This is a full-time Staff Accountant role at UHY-US, a professional services firm delivering specialized tax services. UHY is recognized as one of the nation’s largest professional services firms, providing audit, tax, consulting, and advisory services, primarily to clients in the middle market. The firm is also an independent member of UHY International, a top 20 international network of independent accounting and consulting firms. This position contributes to delivering essential tax services to high-net-worth individuals, families, and their advisors. The role centers on preparing and analyzing estate, gift, and trust tax returns, supporting tax planning strategies, and ensuring full compliance with applicable laws.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Compliance: Prepare and review comprehensive estate, gift, and trust tax returns, specifically Forms 706, 709, and 1041, ensuring strict compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations. This involves verifying and accurately documenting all tax-related information.
• Tax Planning: Assist in the development and execution of strategies focused on wealth transfer, with the goal of minimizing tax liabilities and preserving client assets effectively. This includes analyzing financial data to support tailored planning decisions for client needs.
• Client Engagement: Work directly with high-net-worth clients, their legal counsel (attorneys), and financial advisors to gather all necessary information. The role requires providing clear, timely communication to address any client questions or concerns, ensuring seamless service delivery.
• Tax Research: Conduct thorough, in-depth research on current estate, gift, and trust tax laws, along with emerging trends in the tax landscape. This also involves assisting in drafting detailed memos or reports that outline tax implications and recommended strategies.
• Collaboration and Improvement: Collaborate actively within the tax team to produce high-quality work products and foster a supportive environment. Identify and propose opportunities to improve existing processes and increase overall efficiency in tax return preparation and planning services.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field. Educational requirements include a minimum of 5 accounting classes, at least one individual income tax class, and one business law class.
• Experience: A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a tax or accounting role.
• Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in tax return preparation (Forms 706, 709, and 1041), ensuring tax compliance, conducting financial data analysis, and performing in-depth tax research.
• Bonus: Possession of, or active pursuit towards, professional certification(s) such as CPA, Enrolled Agent, LLM, CFP, MST, or Juris Doctor (JD). This also includes responsibility for completing the minimum Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit requirements. Experience with specific software including Axcess Tax, Axcess Document, Axcess Workstream, Thomson Reuters Fixed Assets CS, and Checkpoint for Tax Research is preferred.
