Staff Accountant | UFG Insurance

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at UFG Insurance, located in-person. UFG Insurance is actively seeking a Staff Accountant to ensure the accurate accounting, reporting, and analysis of the company’s financial transactions. This role is critical in maintaining data integrity across financial systems and supporting the precise and timely financial reporting for multiple company entities. The Staff Accountant plays a key part in adhering to accounting principles and supporting operational efficiencies within the financial reporting function.

• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas), financial systems or subledgers

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Close: Prepare month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis for multiple company entities.
• Reporting & Analysis: Assist with analyzing financial information and preparing detailed reports to support management decision-making.
• Data Integrity: Maintain organized documentation for all accounting activities and ensure transactions are properly recorded in accordance with accounting principles.
• Governance & Audit: Prepare SOX-compliant documentation, ensuring adherence to internal control requirements, and assist with internal and external audit requests.
• Process Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on optimizing processes, standardizing reporting, and automating data flow within financial reporting.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, with a fundamental understanding of GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
• Experience: The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical accounting skills and attention to detail, enabling effective work both independently and collaboratively.
• Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas); Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to accuracy and detail; Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams; Ability to handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a dynamic environment; Critical thinking skills and sound professional judgment.
• Bonus: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or progress toward certification; Prior experience within property and casualty insurance; Experience with financial systems or subledgers.
