What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Analysis: Utilize Microsoft Excel and Access to work with large, complex datasets, applying advanced data transformation techniques, maintaining structured data environments, and building or modifying queries and formulas for accurate and efficient data retrieval and reporting.
• Financial Operations: Process, analyze, review, reconcile, and monitor diverse financial activities, initiating necessary journal entries to ensure the ongoing financial integrity of assigned accounts.
• Financial Reporting: Perform critical financial close activities, including thorough account reconciliation, researching and resolving discrepancies, and recommending corrections to support timely and accurate forecasting and report submissions.
• Compliance & Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous accounting records to ensure strict compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), grantor agreements, and internal organizational policies.
• Specialized Program Management: Execute grant-related post-award accounting functions, administer the Attorney Loan Repayment Program, and oversee the departmental fleet and fixed assets, including tracking, maintenance, inventory, and reporting.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, mathematics, or a closely related field.
• Experience: One year of dedicated experience in auditing, government finance/accounting, grant accounting, or budgeting. A combination of post-secondary education in a relevant field and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
• Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Excel and Access for complex data analysis, transformation, and query building. Strong capabilities in financial reconciliation, processing journal entries, and a solid understanding of financial reporting standards including GAAP, GASB, CFR, and specific grantor agreements.
• Bonus: Prior experience in public sector or non-profit accounting, especially with a focus on auditing, grants accounting, or budgeting. Specific assignments may require the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Driver’s License and completion of grantor-mandated training within three months of hire.
