Staff Accountant | National Church Residences
The Tone:
This is a Staff Accountant (Hybrid) role at National Church Residences. As the nation’s largest not-for-profit provider of affordable senior housing, with over 340 communities across 25 states, the company also extends its mission through home and community-based services and supportive housing for formerly homeless and disabled individuals. This role within the Housing Accounting team is critical for fulfilling this broad mission by producing accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring the financial integrity and transparency necessary to support its extensive operations and diverse resident population.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Statement Production: Take source information from various operating entries, accurately record journal entries in a timely manner, and review financial statements for accuracy.
• Audit Preparation & Reporting: Assist with the completion of preliminary and final financials, prepare operation schedules, and update audit schedules monthly for the fiscal year-end audit of assigned properties.
• Compliance and Regulatory Filings: Complete and distribute ABC reports to the appropriate HUD office by deadlines and accurately calculate PILOT tax amounts.
• Account Reconciliation & Asset Management: Reconcile reserve accounts, complete bank reconciliations, and maintain the Fixed Asset Database to ensure comprehensive financial integrity.
• Process Documentation & Internal Control: Create and maintain thorough documentation for all major accounting processes and procedures, and report monthly on deficiencies in internal control and training needs for source documentation providers.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, demonstrating core domain knowledge for financial statement production.
• Experience: None required.
• Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to understand and make oneself understood in English; ability to comprehend complex concepts; ability to work well with others in a collaborative, team environment.
• Bonus: One year of accounting experience preferred.
