Tax Operations Intern | Coinbase

The Tone:
This is a 12-week internship during summer 2027 at Coinbase, a remote-first but not remote-only company that gathers quarterly for intense in-person working sessions. At Coinbase, the mission is to significantly increase economic freedom by building the future of finance through the advancement of digital assets and the broader crypto economy. This internship is vital for ensuring Coinbase accurately meets its tax obligations across all operating jurisdictions, providing precise tax accounting in financial statements, and supporting an optimal tax structure within a high-growth crypto environment. The work environment is intentionally intense, designed to push individuals beyond their perceived limits, making it a place for those who refuse to settle for “good enough” and are ready to build the future of finance.

• Team: Tax team within Finance, reporting directly to the Tax Controller
• Mission: Contribute to Coinbase’s tax provisioning, financial reporting, and compliance processes to ensure all tax obligations are met and an optimal tax structure is maintained.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Ownership: Own key tax provisioning and financial reporting tasks, including balance sheet account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
• Audit Support: Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to information requests within your areas of responsibility.
• Compliance: Maintain compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures across all assigned tax controllership processes.
• Documentation: Build and update process documentation for all recurring tasks to ensure continuity and accuracy.
• Projects: Execute ad hoc financial analyses and special projects as assigned by the Tax Controller.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Currently pursuing a degree or certificate in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
• Experience: Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities through coursework or prior internship experience.
• Skills: Familiarity with US GAAP concepts; ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate work in a fast-moving environment; interest in digital assets and the crypto economy, with willingness to develop domain expertise; utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
• Bonus: IFRS knowledge.
