Staff Accountant | Vantage Network
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Vantage Network, primarily remote with a preference for candidates located in the Washington DC metro area due to occasional in-person meetings and events. The Vantage Network comprises a group of firms that deliver legal, consulting, and compliance services to a diverse clientele including corporate, government affairs, and political entities. This Staff Accountant position is pivotal for maintaining accurate financial records, bolstering accounting processes across various entities, and directly supporting the ongoing growth and operational excellence of the organization.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Entity Management: Manage the day-to-day accounting operations for assigned smaller entities, ensuring adherence to established protocols and working closely under the Director of Accounting’s direction and oversight.
• General Ledger and Reconciliations: Prepare and post routine journal entries, including accruals, allocations, reclassifications, payroll-related entries, and all necessary month-end adjustments, while also performing comprehensive general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations to identify and correct discrepancies.
• Accounts Payable Support: Oversee and support all accounts payable activities, encompassing meticulous invoice review and entry, ensuring proper GL coding and entity allocation, managing vendor setup, processing payments accurately, and handling vendor inquiries promptly.
• Accounts Receivable & Transaction Review: Assist with accounts receivable functions as needed, including client invoicing, accurate payment application, and account research. Additionally, review all accounting transactions for proper GL coding, entity assignment, and intercompany allocations, coordinating corrections as necessary.
• Month-End Close & Reporting: Contribute significantly to month-end and year-end closing activities, preparing supporting schedules, reviewing account activity, recording intercompany transactions, and assisting with the preparation of financial reports, account analyses, and management schedules.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in accounting is a firm requirement, complemented by a solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and fundamental accounting principles essential for financial integrity.
• Experience: One to three years of professional accounting experience, specifically including general ledger accounting, preparing and posting journal entries, performing balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations, and direct involvement with both accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
• Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in QuickBooks and the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, alongside strong analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively research discrepancies and identify appropriate corrections. This role also demands being highly organized, capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a multi-entity environment, and maintaining accountability while working independently in a remote setup.
• Bonus: Preferred experience includes familiarity with other accounting, billing, and expense management systems. A proven ability and genuine interest in taking increasing ownership of assigned accounting functions and entity-level accounting responsibilities are also highly valued.
