Tax Intern, Core Tax Services – Summer 2027 (Richmond) | BDO USA

What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Preparation: Prepare simple tax returns and extensions using tax software applications for review by experienced professionals.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens.
• Financial Provisioning: Assist with components of income tax provisions, correctly applying Firm policies and standards regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.
• Tax Research: Utilize online research tools to gather pertinent tax information and monitor tax law and client factual developments on a regular basis.
• Client Support: Assist with responses to notices from the Internal Revenue Service and aid in the projection of year-end filings for clients.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Accounting or another relevant field, pursuing an entry-level career in tax services.
• Experience: No specific years of prior work experience are required; leadership experience is preferred.
• Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to follow instructions as directed; ability to work effectively in a team setting; seeks advice from appropriate superiors regarding issues related to compliance; ability to prepare simple tax returns.
• Bonus: Pursuing a master’s degree in Accounting or another relevant field, actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA, demonstrates a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
