Accounting Intern – Summer 2027 | Pepper Construction Group

The Tone:
This is an Accounting Internship at Pepper Construction Group, a national general contracting and construction management firm with offices located in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio. • Mission: To gain overall exposure to the financial group and focus on project-specific accounting duties within a national general contractor.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Contract Review: Thoroughly review owner contracts to understand and interpret all terms and conditions related to financial obligations and project agreements.
• Billing Terms: Accurately identify and extract specific contractual terms that dictate the parameters and requirements for client billing processes, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
• Billing Coordination: Actively coordinate the overall billing process, working with relevant teams to ensure timely and correct invoicing in accordance with identified contractual terms.
• Financial Processing: Efficiently process various financial transactions, including managing accounts payable (A/P) for vendor invoices, overseeing accounts receivable (A/R) for incoming client payments, and handling daily cash processing activities.
• Industry Engagement: Actively participate in valuable training sessions, engage in on-site jobsite tours to gain practical industry insight, and adhere to safety protocols, all contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the construction environment.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level college student currently enrolled and entering their Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year during the 2026/27 academic school year, pursuing a degree in Accounting or a closely related discipline, with relevant coursework already completed to demonstrate foundational knowledge.
• Experience: No specific prior professional experience in years is explicitly required; however, candidates must possess and demonstrate relevant academic coursework in accounting or a similar field.
• Skills: Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication abilities to effectively interact with team members and stakeholders. Possesses strong computer proficiency, along with the agility to quickly learn and apply new technology and software applications pertinent to financial operations. Capable of working autonomously on assigned tasks while also effectively contributing and collaborating within a team environment. Exhibits the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently, consistently maintaining a high level of attention to detail across all responsibilities.
