Associate Accounting, Commercial Controllers | Capital One

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Capital One, located in McLean, VA, New Orleans, LA, or Richmond, VA. Capital One is an organization that supports Commercial Broker Dealers registered with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the SEC. This position directly supports critical Accounts Payable operations alongside general ledger accounting for these entities. The role seeks a detail-oriented professional eager to improve processes and drive technology-driven automation within a high-performing accounting team.

• Mission: Directly support Capital One’s Commercial Broker Dealers by managing Accounts Payable operations and general ledger accounting.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounts Payable: Manage accounts payable workflows, including vendor onboarding, invoice processing, and contract tracking.
• Month-End Close: Execute month-end close activities, such as calculating expense accruals, preparing journal entries, and performing account reconciliations.
• Financial Analysis: Prepare expense variance analysis and support month-end financial reporting.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key liaison between the line of business and Enterprise Supplier Management, and interact with Finance, business partners, and internal stakeholders.
• Process Improvement: Drive process efficiencies and support team automation and data transformation efforts.
• Licensing: Obtain and maintain a Series 99 Operations Professional license.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree or military experience, with core domain knowledge in accounting, banking, or securities.
• Experience: At least 1 year of experience in accounting, banking, or securities.
• Skills: Detail-oriented, builds strong cross-functional relationships, identifies opportunities for process improvement, and actively identifies opportunities for technology-driven automation.
• Bonus: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, 2+ years of experience in accounting, banking, or securities, or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or CPA candidate.
