Intern Tax Winter 2028 | Metro DC | Forvis Mazars US

The Tone:
This is a tax internship at Forvis Mazars US, located in the Metro DC area. Forvis Mazars US is an independent member of Forvis Mazars Global, a leading global professional services network with over 7,000 team members delivering assurance, tax, and consulting services across all 50 states and internationally. This role offers valuable experience to students exploring a career in public accounting, allowing them to decide whether a path in tax or public accounting aligns with their career aspirations. Interns will contribute to critical client engagements, gaining exposure to various industries and testing their technical knowledge while developing their skillset under the guidance of senior staff and management.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Account Reconciliation: Work with client personnel to reconcile account differences and accurately analyze financial data.
• Tax Preparation: Prepare individual, corporate, partnership, or other required tax returns for various clients.
• Payment Calculation: Calculate tax extension or estimate payments efficiently and accurately.
• Client Engagement: Participate in client meetings alongside Forvis Mazars partners and managers, gaining firsthand experience in client relations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates must be students actively working toward CPA Exam eligibility, demonstrating satisfactory academic performance in major-related coursework. A minimum cumulative overall GPA of 3.0 is required.
• Experience: Entry-level experience gained through relevant academic coursework and projects, with a clear focus on achieving CPA Exam eligibility. This role provides practical application for theoretical knowledge acquired during studies.
• Skills: Solid technical accounting knowledge for accurate financial analysis and reporting. Effective time management to handle multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently. Strong oral and written communication skills for clear client and team interactions. The ability to collaborate effectively within a team as well as to work independently on assigned tasks. Close attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all prepared documents and analyses.
• Bonus: Strong computer proficiency, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite. A problem-solving attitude to address complex financial situations, a willingness to take initiative on new assignments, and the ability to perform effectively under pressure and against deadlines. Reliable transportation is also required for commuting to the assigned office and attending off-site meetings and events in person.
