Staff Accountant Intern | Novogradac
The Tone:
This is a seasonal internship at Novogradac, a national certified public accounting and consulting firm operating with over 900 employees across more than 25 offices. The firm specializes in real estate and community development, providing comprehensive audit, tax, valuation, and consulting services. This role offers future public accounting leaders a direct exposure to the firm’s operations, its partners, and its approach to empowering client businesses. Interns gain practical experience in core accounting functions, making meaningful contributions to the firm’s client work.

• Mission: To gain real-life business experience as a staff accountant intern by contributing to audit, tax preparation, and research for a growing national CPA firm.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Engage in client work: Complete tax and/or audit engagements for designated clients as directed by your Supervisor or Manager.
• Identify issues: Pinpoint and communicate potential problem areas encountered during client engagements.
• Perform research: Gather and analyze business-specific data, interpret findings, compile reports, and present recommendations to principals and partners.
• Build relationships: Develop and maintain effective client relationships through professional conduct and consistent follow-through.
• Support projects: Contribute to various additional duties and projects as assigned.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Working toward a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting or finance, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Candidates should possess a basic understanding of accounting and tax rules.
• Experience: Academic standing with a GPA of 3.20 or higher. Demonstrated skill in using Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word and Excel, along with report writing tools.
• Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities. High attention to detail, organization, and follow-through for accurate and efficient work. Adaptability to work under supervision, incorporating constructive feedback and adjusting as directed. Collaborative mindset to foster a productive, team-oriented environment with colleagues and clients.
• Bonus: Already obtained a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Completion of at least one Intermediate Accounting course. On track or already qualified to sit for the CPA examination.
