The Tone:
This is a full-time role at New York Life Insurance Company, located in a hybrid capacity, requiring 4 days per week in the office. The Office of the Chief Investment Officer leads portfolio strategy and capital allocation for the company’s extensive General Account, acting as the steward of the balance sheet and ensuring disciplined portfolio construction. This role is crucial as an Insurance Portfolio Manager within the General Account Portfolio Management team, serving as a strategic partner to insurance businesses and asset management teams to manage the end-to-end investment process for the over $370 billion portfolio underpinning policyholder commitments. The position combines deep liability expertise with rigorous asset execution to optimize portfolios and deliver consistent risk-adjusted outcomes aligned with long-term company objectives.

The TL;DR

• Team: General Account Portfolio Management (GAPM) team within the Office of the Chief Investment Officer (OCIO)
• Mission: Serve as the strategic partner for the insurance businesses and asset management teams in managing the end-to-end investment process for the General Account.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Serve as the primary investment point of contact and thought partner for insurance businesses, translating objectives into actionable investment strategy and recommendations.
• Lead the development of investment strategies and long-term strategic asset allocation targets for product portfolios to enhance pricing and support new business growth.
• Partner with the GAPM team to manage asset liability management positioning for responsible product lines.
• Develop strategies to enhance the financial performance of the existing investment portfolio while improving risk resiliency.
• Lead quarterly business asset liability committee meetings with business unit executives and finance leaders, providing strategic investment insights, updates, and recommendations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science or a similar field with deep knowledge of insurance assets and liabilities.
• Experience: 10+ years of professional experience in the insurance or asset intensive financial services industry, including presenting investment recommendations and portfolio strategy to executive leadership.
• Skills: Proven leadership abilities, strong executive presence and communication skills, ability to create effective partnerships across diverse roles and positions.
• Bonus: Industry credentials such as CFA or FSA, and/or an advanced degree are strongly preferred.
