Accounting/Finance Intern | Thrivent
The Tone:
This is a 12-week summer internship at Thrivent, a Fortune 500 financial services organization, with hybrid opportunities available in Appleton, WI, and Minneapolis, MN. The program is designed to provide college students with meaningful, challenging work experience in specific functions, offering a deeper understanding of the financial services industry. This role is a key component of Thrivent’s entry-level talent program, ensuring a strong talent pipeline to meet the organization’s needs now and into the future by optimizing intern skills and providing exposure to multiple business areas.

• Mission: To support the financial needs of assigned divisions by providing insights, analysis, and operational improvements to aid management decision-making in a highly collaborative environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Analysis & Insight: Build comprehensive insights by analyzing financial processes, systems, trends, and results, delivering actionable data for management decision-making within the assigned division(s).
• Accounting Operations: Support core accounting functions by assisting in the month-end close process, preparing accurate journal entries, and reconciling various accounts.
• Financial Controls & Audit: Contribute to robust financial governance by assisting with the preparation of materials for audits and collaborating with team members and internal stakeholders to update and review financial controls.
• Business System Optimization: Analyze and evaluate existing business systems, objectives, processes, and user data, then recommend and implement solutions to meet evolving business needs.
• Operational Improvement & Communication: Initiate and drive operational improvements, ensuring seamless communication of changes to appropriate business partners and supporting other assigned projects as needed.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently a Junior (December 2027 or May 2028 graduation date) in an undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Experience: A proven history of excellent academic performance (GPA 3.0+), complemented by an ability to understand financial statements and their respective components.
• Skills: Demonstrates disciplined personal management and organization skills, strong problem identification and analytical capabilities, and well-developed written and oral communication skills. Additionally, proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint, is required.
