Advanced Warehouse Operator – Level I – SHOP | Cummins
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Cummins, located in Rocky Mount, NC. In this position, you will be crucial to the efficient flow of goods within our Cummins Inc. facility, ensuring materials are managed from accurate receipt and sorting through to their timely dispatch. Your work directly contributes to optimizing warehouse space, maintaining operational smoothness, and meeting critical production demands for our customers. This role is fundamental in upholding our stringent standards for safety, quality, and environmental responsibility while fostering a collaborative and productive work environment within the shop.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Material Handling: Accurately receive, sort, label, and store incoming goods, leveraging various Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIV) like forklifts, tuggers, and burden carriers to move materials from the dock to the point of fit station. You will also systematically receive materials using a Handheld Terminal (HHT) to ensure proper recording and flow.
• Operational Dispatch: Efficiently pick, pack, and dispatch outgoing goods precisely according to requests. This includes monitoring the usage of materials in associated teams to proactively prevent any downtime or early obsolescence of operating parts (EOOP) due to lack of material availability at the stations.
• Compliance & Quality: Adhere rigorously to Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards, consistently using appropriate personal protective equipment to promote a safe working environment. You will also perform essential quality checks and identify any non-conforming materials to maintain high standards and minimize potential cost and quality issues.
• Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operate forklifts and other essential warehouse machinery safely and efficiently, contributing to the overall productivity of the warehouse. This also involves performing routine housekeeping and maintenance tasks to ensure a consistently clean and orderly work area.
• Inventory Management: Actively manage inventory accuracy by receiving the shift demand report for your assigned team and conducting thorough checks. You will perform cycle counts on parts with physical quantities less than required system quantities, using the Handheld Terminal (HHT) and recording actual counts for review to ensure production protection and availability.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level position requiring a high school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education, or equivalent experience. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
• Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV) experience, including Forklift, Tugger, and Burden carrier operation.
• Skills: Proficient in the safe operation of various warehouse machinery; ability to receive materials physically and systematically using a Handheld Terminal (HHT); capability to perform accurate cycle counts and inventory management; skilled in adhering to HSE standards and performing quality checks.
