Tax Intern – Summer 2027 | Grant Thornton (US)

The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at Grant Thornton, located in Boston, MA, operating under a hybrid work model. The firm is dedicated to making business more personal and building trust for clients. As a Tax Intern, you will gain practical exposure to tax consulting and return preparation, contributing directly to engagement teams and client relationships while learning new skillsets and building lasting professional connections.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship

• Pay: $40 hourly
• Team: Works alongside Partners, Senior Executives, and peers as a member of the engagement team.
• Mission: To gain practical experience in tax consulting and return preparation, assisting with various tax procedures and client projects.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Preparation Support: Reviewing data input, identifying and resolving technical tax issues, and assisting in the comprehensive review of tax preparations completed by the firm’s India office.
• Regulatory Communication: Responding accurately and promptly to inquiries received from the IRS and other taxing authorities.
• Issue Research & Assessment: Identifying, thoroughly researching, and assessing various complex tax issues, then providing clear, concise information and findings to senior staff members.
• Client Engagement & Relationship Building: Collaboratively working with client team members across diverse industries while actively building rapport and fostering strong, lasting client relationships.
• Project Contribution: Identifying and carrying out other specialized projects as assigned, contributing to a variety of client engagements within varying industries.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0/4.0. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Experience: Entry-level position. Demonstrated project management skillset including effective project planning and time management.
• Skills: Excellent analytical capabilities, strong written and verbal communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills are essential. Possess a strong technical aptitude and skillset. Exhibit the ability to work efficiently and collaboratively in complex team environments. Must be willing and able to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites, sometimes on short notice.
