Assurance Intern – Summer 2027 | RSM US LLP

What You’ll Actually Do
• Client Understanding: Develop a comprehensive understanding of clients’ specific needs and expectations, their unique business models and industry landscape, internal accounting and control systems, company values, and the relevant industry-related GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and GAAS (Generally Accepted Auditing Standards) issues that impact their operations.
• Audit Approach & Risk Assessment: Actively develop a working understanding of the RSM audit approach and its proprietary tools. Following this, you will apply this knowledge to assess inherent business risks and evaluate the client’s internal control structure to identify potential areas of concern or strength.
• Testing & Issue Resolution: Execute substantive tests and perform detailed tests of internal controls. The objective of these procedures is to rigorously identify, analyze, and ultimately resolve any accounting or reporting issues encountered during the engagement.
• Financial Statement Preparation: Take part in the process of drafting financial statements, ensuring they conform to prescribed formats and comply with all applicable standards and regulations.
• Engagement Communication: Effectively communicate engagement findings, observations, and recommendations with both internal engagement teams and directly with clients, ensuring clarity and professionalism in all interactions.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates must be working towards a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree, or an equivalent qualification, from an accredited university. A declared major in Accounting is a fundamental requirement for this role, providing the necessary foundational knowledge.
• Experience: A minimum of 90 credit hours must be completed as part of the degree program. Additionally, given the nature of client service, travel to assigned client locations is required. Candidates must possess reliable access to transportation and be capable of arranging its use for these engagements.
• Skills: Demonstrable excellence in both written and verbal communication is essential for effective interaction with teams and clients. Strong computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office suite applications, is required for daily tasks. The ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a team is also crucial for successful project execution.
• Bonus: A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is preferred, indicating academic achievement. Ideal candidates will also demonstrate motivation to thrive in a fast-paced work environment, maintain a client-focused approach, and possess the ability to multitask efficiently across various responsibilities.
