Corporate Accounting Specialist – Accounting -Intern | Farm Credit Services of America

The Tone:
This is a 12-week internship with Farm Credit Services of America, located in Omaha, NE. This organization is part of a larger financial cooperative with over 2600 employees serving rural communities and agriculture across eight states. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate financial records and reliable representation of the financial position for the associations and AgDirect, supporting their fiduciary responsibilities. The intern will gain hands-on experience by contributing to core general ledger functions within established accounting principles and regulations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Month-End Close: Assist with monthly and quarterly close activities, including processing journal entries, completing key validations, and performing analytical reviews.
• Financial Accuracy: Ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions, correct account classifications, and prompt resolution of any issues.
• Ledger Management: Support accounting teammates in maintaining various subledgers and ensuring the accuracy of amortization schedules for fixed assets, leases, and prepaid accounts.
• Payroll Accounting: Perform payroll and benefits accounting processes by analyzing data files from Farm Credit Foundations to verify accuracy of entries for the Associations.
• Reporting Support: Assist the Financial Reporting team with documenting monthly reconciliation processes, participating in financial reporting, and analyzing Call Report information.
• Control Documentation: Support the Internal Control over Financial Reporting (ICFR) team by assisting with control inquiries, participating in process walkthroughs, and documenting key financial controls.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business, Banking, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience: Available for a 12-week internship during the summer, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
• Skills: Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; foundational understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Farm Credit Administration (FCA) regulations, and IRS requirements.
