Payroll Accountant | Applicantz
The Tone:
This is a full-time, onsite role at Applicantz, located in Houston, TX (zip 77032). Applicantz operates within a large enterprise environment, and this position plays a critical role in supporting its payroll accounting operations. The Payroll Accountant ensures the integrity of financial records by maintaining accurate general ledger entries, performing essential reconciliations, and managing accrual accounting for employee compensation, benefits, and stock activity. This role is fundamental to the company’s financial accuracy and compliance.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounting Operations: Handle comprehensive payroll accounting tasks, including managing accruals, performing balance sheet reconciliations, and executing general ledger entries.
• Reserve Management: Manage the tracking of Paid Time Off (PTO) and vacation reserves, facilitating year-end vacation payouts as required.
• Transaction Processing: Process cash clearing transactions and conduct reconciliations for employee stock purchases.
• Journal Entry & Reconciliation: Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries to the general ledger, then reconcile associated payroll accounts such as wages payable, taxes, and benefits.
• Financial Analysis & Compliance: Analyze payroll variances, resolve discrepancies, maintain accurate payroll records for audits, and ensure adherence to internal controls and company policies.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, demonstrating core domain knowledge in accounting principles.
• Experience: A minimum of nine (9) months of experience in accounting related roles is required, with 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred, especially with exposure to payroll accounting or payroll finance support.
• Skills: Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliation; proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
• Bonus: Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA or a comparable ERP system, experience with ADP Global View and Smart Compliance in a large enterprise payroll environment, and Blackline reconciliation platform experience.
