The Tone:
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Staff Accountant, recruited by Aston Carter for a fast-growing construction and asphalt business in West Springfield, MA. This position is a foundational step, offering a clear path toward senior financial leadership by supporting a wide range of accounting, tax, and treasury activities within a growth-oriented environment.

• Mission: This person will manage daily accounting, tax, and treasury operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance while driving process improvements for a growing construction and asphalt business.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reconcile: Perform daily bank account reconciliations and investigate and resolve outstanding items in a timely manner.
• Tax: Prepare and file monthly and quarterly sales and use tax returns for multiple entities and jurisdictions.
• Close: Prepare monthly journal entries and complete balance sheet reconciliations as part of the month-end close process.
• Analyze: Analyze financial data to identify variances, trends, and anomalies, and clearly communicate findings.
• Improve: Recommend and support process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience in public accounting, audit, or a corporate accounting environment, with hands-on experience in bank account reconciliations, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
• Skills: Working knowledge of US GAAP, advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, strong analytical abilities for variance analysis, excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, and strong written and verbal communication.
• Bonus: Experience with multi-state tax compliance, public accounting/tax/audit experience, familiarity with remote collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom, or Asana, or experience with Crystal Reports.
