Biostatistician – Urology | Mayo Clinic

• Team: Reports to a Senior Bioinformatician or Principal Bioinformatician.
• Mission: To apply bioinformatics expertise to design, analyze, interpret, and report on research and clinical genomics studies.
• Tech Stack: Bioinformatics and computational biology tools, programming languages for novel analytical tools, informatics computing and data management packages, omics technologies (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics).
What You’ll Actually Do
• Collaborate: Apply bioinformatics expertise to the design, implementation, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of research and clinical genomics studies.
• Analyze Data: Utilize bioinformatics and computational biology tools and techniques to analyze genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data (omics technologies).
• Develop Tools: Employ programming skills to develop novel analytical tools as needed by specific projects.
• Manage Data & Statistics: Handle regulatory, compliance, and programmatic data for clinical trials, perform sample size calculations and power balance, and run statistical analysis for departmental manuscripts.
• Document & Track: Maintain detailed project documentation to enable smooth handoff to other bioinformatics staff members and accurately track time spent on projects.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Master’s degree in bioinformatics or a similar field with an emphasis on analytical omics expertise.
• Experience: Expertise in the use of informatics computing and data management packages, with demonstrated success in project management.
• Skills: Strong programming skills for developing novel analytical tools; proficiency in various bioinformatics and computational biology tools and techniques for omics data analysis; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to prioritize, organize, and delegate tasks effectively.
• Bonus: Basic knowledge of statistical methodology; demonstrated initiative in administration, education (seminars, training), software development, or technical reports.
