Reinsurance Accountant | Equitable

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Equitable, offered as either fully remote or hybrid, with primary office locations including Syracuse, NY. This role is crucial for providing expert analysis for complex reinsurance initiatives, including impact analysis, process flows, and developing expertise in assumed and ceded reinsurance strategies and functions, along with their implementation and testing.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounting Operations: Manage daily reinsurance accounting, including recording transactions, reconciling accounts, and maintaining ledgers.
• Contract Interpretation: Translate complex reinsurance contracts into operational processes compliant with applicable accounting standards.
• Financial Collections: Oversee the timely issuance of billing statements and collection of payments from reinsurers.
• Performance Analysis: Analyze financial data to identify trends and variances, then advise leadership on potential improvements.
• Audit Preparedness: Prepare for internal and external audits by providing all necessary documentation and insights.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, with 5+ years of experience in reinsurance accounting, claims, and reporting within the insurance industry, ideally in Life and Annuities.
• Experience: 5+ years in reinsurance accounting, claims, and reporting, particularly within the Life and Annuities sector. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems is required, with experience in reinsurance tools such as RMS or AIR being an advantage.
• Skills: Established technical knowledge of reinsurance arrangements, accounting principles, and regulatory frameworks. Demonstrated analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex datasets. Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
• Bonus: CPA, industry designation (i.e., ALMI, FMLI), or equivalent certification. Experience with Business Objects, Analysis for Office, Power BI, and Tableau.
