Operational Management Trainee – Fleet | WM

The Tone:
This is a developmental training program position at WM, located within the Great Lakes Area with significant travel and potential for relocation after the program. WM focuses on providing essential services supported by a robust fleet of primary and secondary equipment. This role is crucial for developing future leaders who will ensure the efficient maintenance and maximum performance of the company’s fleet operations within an assigned area.

• Location: In-person – Great Lakes Area (80% travel) with potential relocation
• Team: Supervised by Fleet Managers
• Mission: Develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities to lead, implement, and monitor maintenance processes, maximize fleet performance, and manage the full fleet of primary and secondary equipment.
• Tech Stack: Fleet maintenance software program, general business applications

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop: Acquire a comprehensive working knowledge of WM’s Fleet operations and general business applications.
• Advance: Build the necessary skills and experience to progress into a Fleet Supervisor and eventually a Fleet Manager role.
• Contribute: Work with Corporate and local safety teams to foster an aware and observant safety-conscious culture.
• Engage: Actively participate in worksite meetings, daily huddles, and company mentoring programs to enhance learning and development.
• Document: Complete all required paperwork accurately using the designated fleet maintenance software, tracking repairs, parts usage, and labor times.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Associate’s Degree in a Diesel Technician Certification program or a similar area of study, or a High School Diploma or GED (accredited) combined with two (2) years of relevant work experience.
• Experience: 0 – 6 months of previous work experience in addition to the education requirement, along with a valid Driver’s License.
• Skills: Ability to learn and apply WM’s Fleet and general business applications; commitment to understanding and promoting the WM Safety Program; proficiency in completing paperwork and utilizing fleet maintenance software.
