Junior Staff Accountant | Holt’s Cigar Company

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Holt’s Cigar Company, an organization specializing in cigars. This position is vital for maintaining the financial health and accuracy of the company’s records. The Junior Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring all accounts and financial documents are meticulously prepared, maintained, and reconciled, providing essential support to the accounting department and wider management.

The TL;DR

• Team: Reports to the Senior Accountant; collaborates with Accounting Staff and management across all company channels.
• Mission: To ensure the accurate maintenance, preparation, and reconciliation of the company’s financial accounts and documents.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Record Keeping: Prepare and accurately record journal entries, maintain comprehensive accounting files, and effectively prioritize responsibilities to ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Cash & Digital Transaction Management: Process and reconcile retail store sales and cash receipts, prepare bank deposits, and diligently maintain cash sheets. This also includes settling and recording daily credit card and/or PayPal transactions on cash sheets, maintaining deposit spreadsheets, and efficiently settling all related disputes.
• Account Reconciliation & Reporting: Reconcile cash general ledger accounts and cash sheets to bank statements, and prepare and reconcile various state and local tobacco, sales, and use tax filings. Additionally, reconcile other balance sheet accounts by compiling and balancing financial information.
• Audit & Closing Support: Assist with reviewing expense reports and disbursing payments, coordinate and prepare materials for financial audits, and contribute to monthly closing duties, account analysis, and special projects. Provide support to other accounting staff members and assist with mid-year and year-end physical inventories.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. A broad understanding of basic accounting principles is required.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability in maintaining, preparing, and reconciling accounts and other financial documents. Experience assisting with expense reports, financial audits, and physical inventories.
• Skills: Excellent communication skills, the ability to multitask and prioritize simultaneous assignments with minimal oversight, and a strong passion for precision and efficiency.
