Human Resources Management Trainee | BNSF Railway

The Tone:
This is a full-time management trainee position at BNSF Railway, located in Fort Worth, TX, with the option for one day per week remote work. BNSF Railway is one of the largest U.S. railroads, transporting freight across 28 western states and 3 Canadian provinces. In this role, you will contribute to supporting the movement of essential products and materials that help communities throughout America and the world. You will gain foundational skills in human resources to contribute to the company’s strategic goals.

The TL;DR
• Role: Management Trainee
• Type: Full-time
• Location: Hybrid – Fort Worth, TX (one day per week remote, up to 25% travel required, relocation required if over 50 miles away)
• Pay: $72,000 yearly
• Team: Human Resources Department, with potential placement in Talent Acquisition, HR Matrix, or Training and Development teams.
• Mission: Equip individuals with the skills necessary to excel in railway operations human resources through hands-on experience and by contributing to employee engagement and strategic objectives.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Candidate Processing: Partner with internal HR and medical departments, along with vendors, to manage candidates through the pre-employment process.
• Project Leadership: Spearhead projects focused on improving processes or project management within human resources.
• HR Business Partnering: Serve as an HR Business Partner for operations teams or corporate departments, managing hiring needs, performance, and employee relations.
• Training Coordination: Coordinate administrative and logistical actions for BNSF training programs, including scheduling, reporting, and materials management.
• Engagement Contribution: Develop new approaches to enhance employee engagement and contribute to the company’s overall strategic goals.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Legally authorized to work in the United States and at least eighteen years old upon hire, without needing BNSF’s sponsorship; pursuing or completed a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Business, or a similar program from an accredited university.
• Experience: Less than three years of professional work experience, excluding internships, part-time jobs, or positions held while pursuing a degree; must have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
• Skills: Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, clear communication, adaptability, and resilience to overcome obstacles and meet deadlines in a complex work environment.
• Bonus: Prior intern experience or less than 3 years of work experience in Human Resources or a related field; held a leadership position in a campus, community, or extracurricular organization; completed a degree (or anticipated degree) in Human Resources or Industrial Psychology.
