Intern, Technical Accounting | Constellation Brands
The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at Constellation Brands, located in Rochester, NY. This role offers comprehensive support to the Technical Accounting & Controls and External Reporting departments, contributing to crucial financial processes. The intern will gain hands-on experience in analyzing data, preparing financial reports, accounting research, and maintaining the internal control framework. This position is vital for assisting management in maintaining accurate financial records, adhering to US GAAP and international accounting standards, and navigating emerging compliance requirements. • Team: Support Technical Accounting & Controls and External Reporting departments; managed and reviewed by a member of the Technical Accounting & Controls Team.
• Mission: This intern will assist in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and robust internal controls for the organization.
• Tech Stack: BPC, SAP S4 Hana
What You’ll Actually Do
• Conduct Accounting Research: Assist in technical accounting research for both US GAAP and international standards, interpreting guidance to support management’s conclusions and documentation of appropriate accounting treatment.
• Manage Financial Transactions: Prepare journal entries and cash flow summaries for complex intercompany transactions, and analyze, create, and post journal entries within BPC and SAP S4 Hana.
• Support External & Statutory Reporting: Provide ad-hoc assistance to the External Reporting team, aiding with required SEC filings and other non-recurring projects, and help prepare statutory financial statements while supporting global statutory audits.
• Maintain Accounting Policies & Controls: Assist with the ongoing maintenance of process documentation and corporate accounting policies, and support internal control activities including attending process walkthroughs and documentation efforts.
• Contribute to ESG & Standards Implementation: Assist in the preparation of ESG reporting aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements, and support the implementation of new accounting standards applicable to the organization.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Undergraduate major in Accounting or Finance, with a preference for candidates having completed three years of undergraduate studies and entering their senior year in an accounting major.
• Experience: Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, understanding of basic accounting and finance principles, analytical skills, and proficiency in Excel.
• Bonus: Experience with accounting information systems.
