Finance & Accounting Intern (Summer ’27) | A-C Electric Company

The Tone:
This is a 10-week internship at A-C Electric Company, located in Bakersfield, CA. A-C Electric Company is an electrical construction company that offers a hands-on, project-based learning opportunity for students. This role involves applying accounting and financial knowledge in a dynamic electrical construction environment. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals, gaining exposure to payroll processing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, month-end close, and financial analytics. This experience directly illustrates how accounting and finance functions impact large-scale construction projects and overall company performance.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounts Processing: Assist in processing accounts payable and receivable for vendors and clients, ensuring accurate coding and timely payment.
• Payroll Support: Support comprehensive payroll processing for both field and office personnel, including adherence to certified payroll requirements for government contracts.
• Financial Reporting: Help prepare critical project budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking reports, providing essential data for project teams and senior leadership.
• Month-End Activities: Actively participate in month-end close procedures, which includes preparing journal entries and conducting thorough account reconciliations.
• Process Improvement: Contribute to a LEAN project focused on optimizing financial processes or reporting improvements, culminating in a formal presentation to company leaders.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled as a student attending a college or university, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with an expected graduation on or before August 2029. Desired majors include Accounting, Finance, Business Administration (with an accounting or finance concentration), Economics, or Business with a quantitative focus.
• Experience: Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) for the entire 10-week duration during Summer 2027.
• Skills: Demonstrated organizational and strong collaboration skills, a drive for results, a desire to learn, and the ability to quickly build professional relationships. You should also be humble, hungry, and agile.
• Bonus: A solid academic performance with at least a 3.0 GPA in upper-division courses for your major or a 2.75 GPA overall. Exceptional communication skills, a demonstrated interest and enthusiasm related to electrical engineering or construction, and strong technical experiences through projects, research, or engineering internships. Demonstrated leadership positions on teams or in student/civic organizations.
