Accountant – Sponsored Projects Accounting | Mount Sinai Morningside

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mount Sinai Morningside, located in New York, NY. • Mission: Ensure all expenditures charged to grants and contracts comply with government, institutional policies, regulations, and award terms and conditions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Compliance Review: Review and approve all transactions for each grant and contract to ensure compliance with Sponsor’s and School’s policies and procedures.
• Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data relating to grants and contracts to detect non-compliance with laws, regulations, and management policies, including comparing salary/effort to approved budgets.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial transactions, and reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to award terms and Sponsor’s reporting standards.
• Reconciliation and Adjustments: Review accounts for discrepancies, reconcile differences, and prepare adjusting journal entries.
• Financial Projection and Reporting: Analyze grant budget, costs, revenues, and obligations to project the correct status of grant accounts, and report findings to management, department administrators, and principal investigators.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• Experience: 0-1 year experience in accounting.
• Skills: Knowledge of accepted accounting procedures, financial data analysis, financial transaction examination, report preparation, and compliance with government/institutional policies and regulations.
• Bonus: 1 year of Accounting/Auditing experience is desired.
