Accounting Intern – Summer 2027 | WhiteWater

This is an in-office Accounting Intern position at WhiteWater, located in downtown Austin, TX, for Summer 2027. This role provides a crucial opportunity to contribute directly to the WhiteWater accounting department’s daily operations and strategic initiatives. The intern will support critical financial processes, including the preparation of accounting transactions and month-end close entries, playing a key part in maintaining accurate and compliant financial records. This position is vital for assisting the team with monthly reporting, identifying opportunities for process improvements, and contributing to various special projects, offering valuable practical experience in applying accounting theory to real-world business challenges.

• Mission: To support the accounting department by preparing financial transactions, assisting with month-end close entries, reporting, and special projects, while learning daily accounting tasks and integrating accounting theory with practice.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Management: Enter accounting data accurately into the ERP system and maintain essential accounting files.
• Month-End Close: Complete monthly journal entries and perform account reconciliations to support financial reporting.
• Accounting Standards Application: Assist with interpreting new revenue contracts to determine proper revenue recognition (ASC 606) and evaluating the accounting for term easements for leases (ASC 842).
• Operational Support: Aid the accounting department in developing procedures to improve workflow efficiency and maintain robust internal controls.
• Project & Presentation: Participate in any additional ad hoc or special projects as assigned, and prepare a concluding presentation to management highlighting skills and knowledge gained.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an Entry-Level position suitable for a student currently enrolled toward a degree in Finance or Accounting. Successful candidates must have completed at least four semesters of college or university curriculum, demonstrating a foundational understanding with a minimum of 9 hours in accounting coursework.
• Experience: Candidates should have demonstrated success in completing team projects and working effectively in a collaborative team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required for daily tasks and analysis.
• Skills: The role demands strong diligence and the ability to multi-task effectively in a dynamic environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for collaborating with team members and presenting findings. A strong academic aptitude coupled with well-developed analytical problem-solving skills is crucial for interpreting complex financial data and contributing to accounting decisions.
