Sr. Director, Competitive Intelligence | Neurocrine Biosciences

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Neurocrine Biosciences, located in San Diego, CA. Neurocrine Biosciences is a leading biopharmaceutical company dedicated to discovering, developing, and commercializing life-changing treatments for patients with under-addressed neurological, psychiatric, endocrine, and immunological disorders. The Senior Director, Competitive Intelligence will lead the company’s enterprise competitive intelligence capability across its commercial portfolio, clinical pipeline, research programs, and external innovation. This role serves as a strategic advisor to senior and executive leadership, translating complex and rapidly evolving scientific, clinical, regulatory, commercial, and competitive information into clear insights that inform corporate strategy, portfolio decisions, business development, R&D strategy, and commercial execution.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Strategy Leadership: Own and lead Neurocrine’s enterprise competitive intelligence strategy across marketed products, development-stage assets, research programs, and emerging areas of strategic interest.
• Capability Building: Build a forward-looking competitive intelligence capability that identifies emerging competitive threats and opportunities, develops differentiated perspectives on market direction, and anticipates competitor actions.
• AI Transformation: Build an AI-native competitive intelligence capability, utilizing large language models and other AI tools to increase the breadth, speed, and depth of analysis across various data sources.
• Strategic Insight: Serve as a trusted thought partner to Corporate Strategy, Business Development, R&D, Commercial, Medical Affairs, and executive leadership, translating complex competitive information into clear strategic implications and recommendations.
• Decision Support: Develop competitor and asset-level scenarios, including likely clinical-development strategies, regulatory paths, launch timing, and commercial potential, to inform major corporate decisions.
• Catalyst Assessment: Lead competitive assessments around major catalysts such as clinical readouts, regulatory decisions, medical congresses, and product launches, rapidly communicating material developments to leadership.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, business, or a related discipline, with a career level equivalent to Senior Director.
• Experience: 14+ years of relevant pharmaceutical, biotechnology, consulting, investment research, competitive intelligence, strategy, or related strategic function (or 12+ with Master’s/MBA; 10+ with PhD/PharmD/MD or other advanced degree).
• Skills: Demonstrated ability to understand complex scientific and clinical information and translate it into business and strategic implications; hands-on proficiency with modern generative AI tools and a track record of incorporating AI into analytical workflows; strong understanding of AI limitations with the ability to validate sources and apply human judgment; ability to synthesize diverse information into differentiated strategic insights; excellent written and verbal communication skills for executive audiences.
• Bonus: Experience leading teams and managing external partners; strong mentoring and leadership capabilities to develop others and lead through influence.
