Payroll Accountant | Colorado State University

What You’ll Actually Do
• Process: Process and review payroll for university employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with institutional policies and applicable laws.
• Reconcile: Reconcile payroll records and validate time and attendance data.
• Manage: Calculate deductions and resolve payroll-related inquiries from staff and faculty.
• Maintain: Maintain and update payroll systems, collaborating with Human Resources on employment contracts and compensation changes.
• Prepare: Prepare payroll tax filings and related reports, assist with audits, and support process improvements for financial and payroll operations.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience, with core domain knowledge in Payroll Management and Payroll Services.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience in end-to-end payroll processing, issue resolution, and working with employment contracts, compensation changes, and related documentation.
• Skills: Proficiency with Accounting Software and payroll systems, a solid understanding of Payroll Taxes, wage and hour regulations, and basic employment law as it relates to compensation. Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving abilities, high attention to detail and accuracy, and effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: Experience in higher education or public sector payroll, and familiarity with multi-state payroll.
