This is an entry-level, full-time Staff Accountant role for Waste Connections, located in Bellevue, Nebraska. Waste Connections is hiring for its Waste Connections of Nebraska – Papillion Sanitation division. This position is a crucial stepping stone within the company, designed to prepare a driven accounting professional for future leadership roles such as Assistant Controller at one of its many nationwide locations, contributing directly to the financial accuracy and strategic insight of operations.

• Mission: Owns the accurate preparation and analysis of financial statements and forecasts to support operational and strategic decision-making.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Prepare: Monthly financial statements for assigned operating locations as part of the financial close process.
• Reconcile: General ledger accounts to ensure financial data accuracy.
• Analyze: Significant financial variances against established budgets and forecasts, reporting findings.
• Present: A rolling three-month financial forecast each month to key stakeholders.
• Support: Quarterly Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance reviews and participate in annual budgeting and financial planning.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level professional with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Experience: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and various accounting systems.
• Skills: Strong analytical capabilities, effective communication, and organizational skills.
• Bonus: CPA or other professional certifications are a strong plus.
