Staff Accountant | CrossCountry Freight Solutions

The Tone:
This is a Staff Accountant role at CrossCountry Freight Solutions, located in Bismarck, ND. In this role, the Staff Accountant plays a crucial part in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring timely month-end closing processes, and confirming financial compliance. This position also focuses on identifying and suggesting improvements for accounting reports and procedures, while receiving guidance and training for professional growth within the company.

• Team: Reports to the Controller, no direct reports.
• Mission: This person is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring timely month-end closing, preparing financial reports, and confirming financial compliance.
• Tech Stack: Sage, QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel

What You’ll Actually Do
• Month-End Closing: Execute comprehensive month-end close procedures, encompassing journal entries, account reconciliations, and detailed variance analysis. This involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather all necessary information for accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Fixed Assets Management: Systematically maintain the fixed asset system, managing acquisitions, disposals, and precise depreciation calculations. This ensures accurate and compliant reporting of fixed assets within financial statements.
• Financial Reporting: Support the preparation and in-depth analysis of monthly financial statements and various financial reports, contributing to informed decision-making.
• Audit Support: Provide crucial assistance during internal and external audit processes, including furnishing necessary documentation and responding to all inquiries concerning financial data.
• Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities for enhancing processes within finance reporting and month-end closing workflows, proposing and implementing best practices to improve overall efficiency.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or 1+ years of experience in accounting. Candidates should possess strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
• Experience: 1+ years of experience in an accounting role.
• Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel; excellent analytical skills and attention to detail; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Bonus: Experience, preferably in the transportation or logistics industry.
